Eastern Shore Families Come Together for REACH

Beth Hess - Tuesday, December 15, 2015

On November 13 and 14, more than 120 participants, including 45 youth, from Maryland’s Eastern Shore came together at the Princess Royale Oceanfront Hotel for the 7th Annual REACH Retreat.

Parents and caregivers attended workshops that included “Childhood Trauma,” “Transition Planning: Navigating through the System” and “Special Education: What You Need to Know."

Youth participated in a “Game of Life” as they trekked around Ocean City participating in workshops in space donated by the community.  They learned life skills and discussed topics such as banking, job- seeking and family planning.

The weekend provided an opportunity for the caregivers to network and develop new skills and also for families to spend time together as a whole. Friday night included a bonfire on the beach and Saturday night featured a family game night and photo booth.

The weekend would not have been a success without all the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the enthusiasm of our families.  A big thank you to our sponsors, Rural CARES, The Talbot Bank, Walmart in Berlin, Pepsi and Wawa.
