Maryland’s New Crisis Hotline Number - 211

Beth Hess - Thursday, September 27, 2018
Maryland recently introduced a new (and easier to remember) crisis hotline number: call 211 press 1. This hotline handles calls related to both mental health and substance use concerns, and provides support, guidance and assistance. Help is available 24/7. This hotline number replaces the previously used 1-800-322-0009.

Additional crisis resources:

  • Texting - In addition to phone support, Maryland has a crisis texting service. To access it, text your zip code to 898-211 (TXT 211). Young people in particular tend to prefer texting to speaking over the phone. All parents and caregivers should consider programming both the hotline phone number and text number into their child’s phone and sharing it with them. We don’t always know if or when our children might need to talk or text with someone and this gives them a credible resource at their fingertips.

  • Online Chat - An online chat is also available 24/7 to anyone in crisis. Go to www.mdcrisisconnect.org and click on “Chat With Us” to get started.

  • Regional Help - In addition to the statewide hotline, there continue to be region-specific crisis numbers available. Click here for a list of these.

  • And More - Click here for additional resources to help you and your family in an emergency.
