Parents and Caregivers Connect in Their Communities

Beth Hess - Friday, December 09, 2016

In November, 22 parents and caregivers of children with behavioral health needs gathered in Ocean City for MCF’s Eastern Shore Family Leadership Retreat. Over two days, participants learned about systems of care, how to be a leader in their family and community, and the importance of self-care.

The Ocean City Retreat was the fourth of its kind over the past two years. These weekend or one-day learning opportunities provide local family leadership training modeled after MCF’s successful Family Leadership Institute. Previous Retreats have been held in Baltimore City, Harford County and on Kent Island. Their goal: building informal support networks in local communities among more than 70 parents and caregivers while connecting them with local schools and agencies.

“I really want to express how much I appreciate all the workshops and the educational and emotional support I receive…they are supportive and informative and uplifting and recharging,” said one Ocean City participant.
