Peer Support for Youth in Prince George’s County

Beth Hess - Tuesday, April 04, 2017
Young people with behavioral health needs in Prince George’s County are invited to get involved in two local, youth-driven programs. MCF is overseeing the development and implementation of a youth peer support group and youth advisory council for Prince George’s County as part of the Prince George’s County System of Care Expansion Implementation Grant in partnership with the Prince George’s County Health Department.

Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council is currently recruiting young adults 18-23 years old with lived experience in the Prince George’s County behavioral health system to develop a young adult peer network. The goal of the Council is to empower young adults as they prepare for independent lives, and engage in system collaboration within the county, while representing the youth voice. Youth Peer Support Group
Middle and high school age youth (ages 11–18) are invited to join their peers the first  Saturday of each month at the Kentland Community Center in Landover to learn about peer support and focus on topics related to mental health, substance use and other behavioral health issues.
