2018 Family Leadership Institute

The Family Leadership Institute (FLI) is a 60-hour, six-weekend intensive training program for parents and caregivers of school-age children with mental health challenges.

Join us to:
  • Build your knowledge of children’s mental health and how to access supports for your family
  • Connect with key leaders in children's mental health in Maryland
  • Become a more effective leader and advocate for children and youth with mental health needs
  • Make connections and share information, stories and support with parents

Funding for this program is provided by the Maryland State Department of Education.

2018 Program Details:

When:  Friday evenings, 5:00* - 9:00 pm, and Saturdays, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

  • January 26 & 27
  • February 2 & 3, February 23 & 24
  • March 2 & 3, March 23 & 24
  • April 6 & 7

*On Friday evenings, dinner begins at 5:00 pm; program begins at 6:00 pm.
*Rescheduling due to inclement weather will occur if needed.


Where: Hyatt Place BWI, 940 International Drive, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090

Cost: This is a fully-funded program that includes meals and shared lodging. Limited stipends available for childcare and transportation based on need.

Lodging:
Lodging is included, but not required, on the Friday night of each weekend.  Rooms are double occupancy (2 people). If you are attending by yourself and wish to stay, we will assign you a room with another FLI participant. Couples will share with each other.

Financial Assistance:
Limited financial assistance is made available to those with need.  Based upon available funds, assistance will be provided for child care and transportation expenses related to attendance at FLI. Application forms for financial assistance will be provided along with the notification of acceptance.

Space is limited and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Application Process:

The Family Leadership Institute (FLI) application process consists of two parts:

  1. Respond to a series of questions about yourself and your child/children (click below to begin your application), commit to attend all sessions, and
  2. Submission of one (1) letter of recommendation from a person (non-family member) who can speak to your dependability, and your commitment to advocacy related to children's mental health.
