Family Navigators

Certain MCF staff members are employed as Family Navigators, providing one-to-one support to families. A Family Navigator is a parent who has cared for a child with special needs and has been trained to help other families. Navigators know about the services in Maryland and in their community, and how to apply for them. A Family Navigator can:

Listen to concerns
Attend meetings, when possible
Assist with completing forms
Explain rights
Make connections to appropriate services

Any parent or caregiver can call a Family Navigator to request assistance for their child, aged 0–21 years, with special needs. There is no cost for Family Navigation Services

Examples of services and resources that Family Navigators can help to identify:

Child care resources
Special education advocacy
Parent support groups
Mental health services
Parent education/leadership training
In-home behavioral support
Evaluation and assessment services
